Amber with outdoor recreateion at the MGCCC-JC does some trips out to the islands with her classes. They did one last summer to Round, Horn, and Ship islands.

Your kayaks look fun. Have you tried a sea kayak - 14 feet or longer and narrower? It's quite a difference how it glides thorugh the water and gets you where you want to go. It's kind of like a mountain bike vs a road bike, on the road.

Stop by again!Annahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02807805811643231234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14172711.post-46684468392579553482008-12-08T05:56:00.000-08:002008-12-08T05:56:00.000-08:00Hi Anna, I just stumbled upon your blog and am enj...Hi Anna, I just stumbled upon your blog and am enjoying it. I was especially interested in your Horn Island Trip. My wife and have been kayaking for several years now. She has a Necky Manitou 12.5, and I have a perception 13.5 and a Ocean Kayak Scrambler (for fishing). My goal is to kayak to one of the barrier islands for an overnight camping trip and i've started looking online for others who do the same, as I'd prefer not to do this alone for safety reason.

I appreciate your comments about being nervous about flipping, especially in cold water. Like you, i'm very comfortable with both of my kayaks (though the perception is a bit tippy), and keep telling myself that I need to practice more on exit-entry and rolling. My idea was to take them out to ship island in the summer, where the water is very clear and warm, and practice there.

If you make another trip to the islands, or want know of a group doing so, please let me know. I'm very familiar with Cat Island, if you ever want to try it, let me know.

JasonAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
